28/05/07 – Why Is Sesana In London? Asks Beslag
Basarwa headman, Kgosi Lobatse Beslag says that he does not know why Roy Sesana is in London to meet lawmakers on the issue of Central Kgalagadi Game Reserve (CKGR). He said that there is free movement of people between CKGR and New Xade where the Basarwa were relocated.

He said that though he consults with Sesana and Basarwa in the reserve on social matters and developments in the village, he never consults him and only deals with Survival International and First People of Kgalagadi.
Beslag said that he does not know why Sesana is complaining that people are dying in New Xade when death is something that occurs countrywide. Read more here
29/05/07 – Sesana hands his petition at Number 10 (United Kingdom)
The leader of the First People of Kalahari, Roy Sesana, last week Thursday delivered Basarwa’s petition meant for the attention of the outgoing British Prime Minister Tony Blair, at 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister’s offices.
“We are here in London to give you this letter because we are angry and sad that the British government supported the Botswana government in this. For example, Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for International Development, said,”those who have been relocated did so by agreement with the government of Botswana. Read more here

CKGR Issue
mmmmh, suppose Roy Sesana and survival international (SI) “win” their case against the government against the relocation of the Basarwa from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), what fruit will that bear? Will the diamonds from the country be deemed blood diamonds? How will that affect the economy of the country – keep note that diamonds contribute more than 70% of export earnings and about 50% of the GDP – and, OK wait, what exactly is the case here? isnt there a compromise somehow?
We usually get a one sided story from the media and from survival international so its hard for me to actually take sides here – but i have heard SI’s side of the story and have been wondering if they continue staying in the CKGR how will they get basic amenities that every Motswana is entitled to – schools, hospitals, roads, clean water, electricity etc – i mean with them scattered (low number per square km) in a restricted area in which we are trying to protect the natural fauna & flora? Will they be allowed to kill animals – endangered species? I might be ill informed but i compare the relocation process with other cases where people in other villages (say Molepolole for example) have been asked to move when there was need to build a rooad or something like that and compensated – isnt it the same issue here?
President
We dont vote for president in Botswana, the winning party’s leader (seats in parliament) automatically gets the position, i think its time we amended our legislation before we end up in the gutter! Imagine the president has absolute power and is immune to prosecution whilst in office – its only a matter of time before someone manipulates that kind of power – and that might be in the near future – some of you might have heard of a civil servant who is illegally using the army helicopters and other items and is kinda “untouchable” – well that civil servant is our next president!
The future sure aint orange!

Im writing my very last exam 2mrw – 17 May 2007 – Yeah, my very last exam as a student at the University of Edinburgh – wow, that feeling of euphoria is lifting me off the ground right now! Well gotta wait for the results tho – u can never know.
I cant beleive my only two exams this year are both in economics! yeah, im an engineering student and both my very last exams are Economics! Well i submitted an essay last week – was a bit about Power Systems Engineering but still, i did more economics reserch than i did technical stuff – coz it was about Transmission Pricing – liberalised markets – quite intuitive though.

Graduating soon too – after the exam – cant wait…
Yeah will be heading home sometime very soon, havent set that date yet tho. im glad im finally going to Botswana but im sad im leaving beautiful Edinburgh and all the friends i have here – damn – well cant have both i guess, im sure as hell gonna miss this place, sob sob, will come back sometime….
And hopefully i will be going straight to work after that – mining some diamonds….
